On The Trail With YouTube Star “Miranda Goes Outside”

Recently, we were so excited to feature in not one, but two YouTube videos by outdoor enthusiast Miranda Webster of Miranda Goes Outside

In the first video Miranda taste tests Yumbini vs. other backpacking meals.  And in the second, she enjoys Yumbini while on a solo hike in Washington.  Have a look!

I Taste Tested New Backpacking Meals for 2025!

Here is what Miranda had to say about Yumbini:

  • Really good, nicely spiced!
  • Texture amazing, rehydrated perfectly
  • Very flavorful, super spicy
  • Can taste onions and chipotle
  • Tastes like designed to be eaten with something else – solid meal with a tortilla, and/or avocado

So glad you enjoyed the fantastic flavor of Yumbini, Miranda!  And good point about Yumbini being good with other things.  We have that covered!  Take a look at our super gigantic list of shelf stable, easy to carry, foods to eat with Yumbini – just what you need for your bear box!

And that list is good not just for backpackers, but office workers, hungry teenagers, and folks with no idea what to make for dinner too!  After all, Yumbini is great for backpacking, but it was invented as an all around, quick, easy, healthy main dish for any and everyone!

In case you are wondering about the competition in Miranda’s taste test, I listed them all out for you below.  You can see, Yumbini is not only delicious but far and away the winner on PRICE!  It is also quicker to make than a lot of the other products, with a comparable protein/calorie ratio.

If you are worried about getting your camp pot dirty, take a look at our list of alternate ways to make Yumbini.  And read on, to learn about Miranda’s recipe for “leftover soup”!

Yumbini is lower in calories than most.  But that is what makes it a good all around choice for everyone.  For a sedentary lunch in the city, it is plenty….add some goodies from our list when you are on the trail.

Rain, Fog & Solitude on My First Backpacking Trip of Spring

In this episode, Miranda is on a solo hike and indulges in the ultimate comfort of Yumbini Cowboy BBQ Pinto Beans and Rice with mashed potatoes!  She told me she was inspired by our recipe for Tangy Yumbini Bake with Mashed Turnips and Potatoes.

She explains that she chose to do a meal that involves some cooking because she likes having stuff  to do at camp when she’s solo backpacking.

That way she doesn’t think about being lonely or potentially nervous.  It takes her mind of being nervous or scared, and…so she doesn’t get bored!

She points out that “Yumbini makes these backpacking rice and beans that are really inexpensive, like 5 bucks!  And they cook so fast, just boil and leave them in the pot for 3 minutes and you are good to go.”

And for those of you worried about how to clean the pot after cooking, she shares her technique for “leftover soup”.  It’s easy!  Boil some water in the dirty pot, use hot water to scrape off sides, then drink the soup!

That is one hearty meal!  We’re so glad you enjoyed it Miranda!

We also have them in our earthquake kit and cycle in fresh Yumbinis when we do our annual update of emergency supplies.

Hope we never have to use them but really glad we have them!
