Easy Comfort Food – Calm With Beans and Rice

Plenty of reason for anxiety

It’s no secret there is plenty to be anxious about in our world right now. You may feel like things are happening so fast, you can’t keep up. It’s true, they are. Of course you think of reaching for a cookie or other easy comfort food!

Besides that, after talking to probably thousands of consumers during Yumbini demos, it’s clear many people are anxious about food too! We are all bombarded with so much “food news” and confusing misinformation, many don’t even know what to eat anymore. It’s enough to make a person devour a box of doughnuts!

Does comfort food work?

We all know warm, familiar foods can be comforting. Especially favorite dishes from childhood can bring a feeling of nostalgia and safety. But often when people think of comfort food, they think of sweets, baked goods, or rich foods like macaroni and cheese, or pizza with “the works”.

We’ve probably all had the experience of indulging in these types of comfort foods and regretting it later. A friend of mine made herself sick by eating a whole bag of pink frosted animal cookies. And I had a similar experience single-handedly finishing off a massive box of crackers on a car trip.

So moral of the story: there are comfort foods, and then there are comfort foods. Your favorite Grandma’s vegetable soup or mashed potatoes would probably leave you feeling calmer, a bowl of raw cookie dough, probably not so much.

Try beans and rice

If you are looking for an easy comfort food that really does make you feel calm, try beans and rice! There are good reasons nearly every culture eats some combination of these two basic foods. Restorative, soothing beans and rice are a natural pair! They taste great together and contain “complementary proteins”. Even better, beans and rice make a complete meal (see Is Beans and Rice and Complete Meal?) seasoned however you want.

Beans have a low glycemic index so (even with rice) they won’t cause a big blood sugar spike (and resulting crash) like sweets and baked goods (see results here). They are packed with protein and fiber so you will be satisfied without feeling sick. And all that fiber feeds your gut microbes, helping you feel happier (See Yes, You Do Think With Your Gut, and Miracle of Beans and Lentils).

Serotonin, the “feel good hormone” is produced from fiber in your gut and gives a sense of calm (see more here). Scientists have even found that fiber in foods like beans is related to cognition (see article). Beans and rice are also high in other important nutrients like folate, magnesium and iron. All leading to a feeling of wellbeing.

Yumbini to the rescue

Hopefully by now you agree beans and rice is the perfect comfort food. But there is one problem. Beans and rice take a long time to cook! You have to soak the beans, and still the rice is ready before the beans. And how do you get the seasoning right?

Fortunately, there is Yumbini – for easy comfort food that is also FAST. Our beans and rice are precooked and dried again so they can be hot, perfectly seasoned and ready in 6 minutes. And Yumbini is designed so almost everyone can eat it. No gluten, no animal products, no common allergens, no weird ingredients. Just pure comfort for your peace of mind.

We desperately need a calmer world, so please tell your friends!
